It's fine!: It's more important that you keep breast feeding, and if the nipple shield is helping you be successful at that, then it's fine to use them. Sometimes you can get him started feeding and that will help pull out the nipple, and then you can take off the shield at the first burping. However, if he does lots better with it on, then by all means, use it.
