Only by Going Down: Altitude illness can be very severe. Mild nausea ; headache or loss of appetite can be prevented by going slow or benefit of taking Diamox (acetazolamide) before ascending. But persistent symptoms should not be ignored. Increasing feelings of being "hung over", woozy, or short of breath, or coughing requires immediate descent. Mild illness is treatable. Severe altitude illness is potentially fatal.
