See your doctor: Urticaria (or hives) is a very common condition. It is estimated that 1 in 4 people will have hives sometime in their lifetime. Hives can be caused by a number of things - both allergic and non-allergic. Hives that don't go away after a couple of weeks should be evaluated by a doctor. Hives with swelling, especially swelling of the throat, lips, or tongue need to be treated immediately.
