Afrin (oxymetazoline): Oxymetazolin is an over the counter nasal spray that will open the nose for up to 12hours. However, it can be habit forming and in the long run can stop working. It can affect the nose in such a way that no other spray will work and you will end up needing surgery. That is why this spray 'afrin' should never be used more than 3 consecutive days. You can use sudafed pill which is not habit forming.
