Thorough evaluation: Clinical depression is a medical illness. You should consult with your family physician or internist. A psychiatric consultation is certainly reasonable. In my practice, i treat patients with both medications and psychotherapy, which tends to be the optimal route. You want to make sure you have an accurate diagnosis, and are taking full, therapeutic doses of medications.
