No: Modern anesthetics in a properly monitored healthy patient does not damage the brain. If the patient has pre existing brain circulation problems, he or she may have some increased risk with anesthesia. You may talk about your concerns with your anesthesiologist before the procedure. Good luck.

Not usually: There is a concern that anesthesia can hurt the brains of those at the extremes of age. (very young and very old). The data is not very specific at this time, and could be a result of changes in brain perfusion in these populations. Someone our age should not have a problem. Address your specific concerns to your anesthesiologist.
