PAIN WITH SICKLECELL: Sickle cell disese is a painful conditon and can have hemolytic crises, sequestration and thrombotic crises.The thrombotic crises is the one which causes the pain in any part of the body.They can be extremely painful requiring narcotics and some times have to be admitted to the hospital for IV fluids and pain medications.

Depends: It depends on the type of crisis the patient is having. Sickle cell vaso-occlusive crisis or painful crisis can be very painful and depending on the severity of the crisis and the particular patient's pain tolerance, personal coping skills, and pain perception can be severe enough to require hospitalization for pain management. There are other types of crises, though as well.
