Usually not: Usually they cause nasal congestion, and loss of sense of smell. Pain is unusual unless the obstruction causes an infection or triggers migraine headaches.

Rarely: Nasal polyposis is a benign inflammatory disease that arises from the lateral wall of the nose and usually causes nasal obstruction and if large enough causes anosmia (decrease in smell). These grape-like swollen tissues rarely if ever cause pain. If you have pain with nasal polyps, you may have sinusitis, which may be painful. See an ENT physician.
