Steroid injection: These tests look for production of human chorionic gonandotropin (hcg), a hormone that is produced by the fertilized egg. While there are causes for false positive and negative results i'm not aware of any connection between a cortisone shot to the shoulder and HCG levels. Having said that, speak with your obstetrician about advice relative to use of any medication in early pregnancy. Good luck.
