A nonspecific thing: Psychosis nos (not otherwise specified) tells you/others there are psychotic symptoms present but 'why' they are there is not specifically known yet. Perhaps with more history taking and data the symptoms will fit better into context, such as a very severe depression, or due to drugs. It alerts us there a these sort of symptoms - no etiology is certain -yet.

Unclassifiable.: A psychosis nos is basically any symptom or symptoms of psychosis that do not fit the criteria for the more common types of psychotic illnesses. This is not uncommon in psychiatry for any of the conditions that we see and as a result of this we need a separate place to categorize them. Nos stands for not otherwise specified. Sometimes the letters nec are used for not elsewhere classified. The german translation of dsm-iv uses the term nicht näher gekennzeichnet which means not more closely characterized as. Hopefully this answers your question for you. Have a good night.
