Chromosome 17: Duplication of chromosome 17 is a relatively new and rare syndrome. These children usually fail to thrive. They are poor feeders. They are usually hypotonic and as a result of their poor muscle tone they show motor delay. They are sometime mistaken for autistic children because of speech and verbal delay.

Located defect: Chromasomes are numbered 1-23 with each chromosome having a petit (smaller) segment called the p arm and a longer q arm that extend from the joining point in their x like appearance. When they say the 17p has a duplication, it means there is an extra portion of all or part of the short segment of 17.The additional gene material confuses the decoding of info as the body forms leading to problems.
