Yes: Std's are certainly transmissible (that is why they are caused std's), but not everyone gets infected all the time simply by having sex with an infected person. Genital herpes for example, may be positive in one person, but the partner does not get it for years, or never gets it. The long an short of it is, you should always use precautions when having sex and use condoms if there is concern.
