Blighted Ovum: Sometimes a pregnancy forms with just the placental tissue and no embryo (which normally grows into a fetus). The placental tissue secretes HCG and will cause a positive pregnancy test. But no fetus was present. Other times, the embryo may have failed so early that it could not be seen and only an empty sac is visible. Early embryonic failure is very common. Hope things work out in the future.
