Yes....but: Both medications can be used to treat pain. Narcotics, such as hydrocodone, do not treat the cause of pain, but make people care less about the perceived pain. The nsaid's act in a different manner, which may include decrease swelling around the injured site, but also decrease our perception of pain. Both work, but in a different manner. It often depends on the patient.

Yes: Hydrocodone is an opioid. Ibuprofen is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. They are both used to treat pain. However, they work in different ways.
