A member asked:

How long does someone live after a massve stroke, if it's even possible?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, it is possible: Might be for years, as brain death or severe injury does not necessarily cause cessation of cardiac function, and artificial machine support could prolong life indefinitely. This assumes that the brain stem functions which support cardiac and vascular homeostasis have been unscathed. Different issue if stroke causes herniation, which can destroy brainstem function.
