Acute?......: Bronchitis is either acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis is usually due to an infection of the airways, either due to bacteria or virus, and symptoms typically last about 7-10 days. However, the cough may last longer since bronchospasm can result from the infection. Chronic bronchitis is a form of COPD usually due to smoking and symptoms can be chronic and life-long but are controlled with therapy.
