A member asked:

Are there any real benefits to herbs/supplements vs some over-the-counter drugs? ie: melanin vs diphenhydramine, peppermint/catnip vs tylenol (acetaminophen)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Absolutely: Let's clarify - over-the-counter drugs (otcs) are virtually the same medications as prescription ones except that they've been granted the freedom to be sold without prescription due to their "benign" profile. Supplements are not medications in and of themselves. They are more or less "naturally" derived preparations that are used for the same purpose as meds. Some of them can be as effective too.
