A member asked:

Can fibromyalgia cause leg weakness along with difficulty speaking (stroke ruled out)?

No: Fibromyalgia is purely a painful total body condition, and causes neither leg weakness or speech difficulty. If your symptoms were transient, might consider a tia, but if persistent and progressive, need to wonder about disorder of motor nerve cells, muscle disorder, or problem with nerve-muscle connections. Find an expert neurologist, and get this fully assessed.

Unlikely : If objective (verifiable) evidence for leg weakness and speech difficulty is present, fm would not be induced in the list of possibilities. Somatization may be considered in a patient previously diagnosed with fm. Adverse effects from fm medications is another consideration. Aside from stroke, other conditions can cause weakness and difficulties with speech. Please see your dr or neurologist.
