High sugar in type 1: Patients with type 1 diabetes have excessive urine production, excess thirst and weight loss. If they do not get placed on adequate insulin, they get dehydrated and have ketoacidosis (k) which will make them sick and have them present to a er. That's the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes k will be made and IV fluids and Insulin therapy will start to correct k and adjust their Insulin dose upward.
