Perimenopause: The bleeding pattern you describe can be common for women in their 40's. A heavy period (bleeding more than 6 days) or bleeding such that you have to change a tampon or pad every few hours, would be reason enough to see gynecologist. Rarely, heavy bleeding as we get older can be a sign of pre-cancer in the uterus and your doctor may want to check you for that. Tubal ligation doesn't affect cycl.

See your OB/GYN: Do a home pregnancy test as you are querying a pregnancy. See your ob/gyn. This may be start of menopause but your gyn needs to rule out other issues for you.
