Quit contract.: Smokers are very good at fooling themselves into smoking again. With a quit contract, the smoker has to answer to you, or to a group of friends, or to a group of people who are also trying to quit. Answering to others for one's indiscretions is difficult, and can help the quitter in his/her attempt.

Listen don't lecture: You can't make someone do something they aren't ready to do, but you can let them know how much you care about them and how you want them around a long time. You can't lecture - that may make it worse, but you can listen and support them. If they want to try to stop, there's great information about how to support them at http://www.Smokefree.Gov/showsupport.Aspx good luck!
