Importance: It depends on what is more important to you. If you are concerned about the procedure, be rest assured you will feel nothing. If you are concerned about the price, then discuss your options with your dentist.

Depends on you: Root casnal therapy is effective about 95% of the time. Frequently, but not alweays, a crown is needed aftetrwards to save the tooth. Replacing the tooth if it were to be extracted is also a very expensive procedure. Talk it over with your dentist.
