See Dentist/MD: Cold sores, also called fever blisters, are small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal after several days - 2 weeks. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. If you have a persistent problem with these blisters than you need to see a dentist or an md for farther diagnosis and tx.
