Steroid/antiitche : U treat the symptoms which is itching & picking. Steroid &anti itching creams r ur cheapest using otc products. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) also will help. If not enough c ur pcp for stronger strength steroid cream & if bad enough u may need a Medrol dosepack.

Needs good hydration: Drink lots of liquids. Other than that, eat a normal diet as tolerated. If he's not hungry, don't worry about that too much as long as he's drinking well. If he's hungry, he should eat. If there are sores in the mouth, then salty or spicy or acidic foods might be painful, so stick with bland foods for the time being.

Hydrate & keep moist: The most important treatment for small pox is to keep hydrated. Drink plenty of water. The next step is to try to keep the lesions from scarring. This is best achieved by keeping all the lesions moist. Vasaline is the easiest tx; keep the lesions gooey as much as possible. They are very itchy so please don't pick or scratch them.
