Not typical : This does not sound like a typical hiatal hernia. Without any disregard to the skills of your nurse, it sounds as if you need advanced diagnostic imaging plus a possible upper endoscopy of upper GI study.

Maybe she's right: Large hiatal hernias can cause the stomach to twist in the chest. Typical symptoms are difficulty eating, feeling full fast, chest pain often described as the sensation a balloon is trying to burst. Sometimes vomiting or heartburn. Diagnosis is made with upper GI contrast x-rays. Sounds like it may be worth the trip a hospital soon. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
