Lower chest/abdomen: Pain can be in the mid to lower chest and upper abdomen. It can be worsened with eating or sometimes even improve initially with eating. Ulcers are formed when the lining of the stomach becomes prone to acids and a sore results on the wall of the stomach. There are several causes from meds to stress and diet. Dark tarry stool is a warning sign of bleeding that may come from the GI system.

Upper belly pain: Ulcers cause middle upper abdominal pain, maybe a 'boring' feeling straight through to back. Sometimes more left, or right, & can be confused w/ gallbladder trouble. Most ulcers from excess acid production (stress, other hormones) or reduction in the protective mucus coating the stomach (advil, ibuprofen, smoking, infection with h pylori, nsaids, aspirin, 'goody' or 'bc' powders.' agree--see dr.
