Metabolism: Bone is living tissue, and bone metabolism simply refers to the cellular activity of bone, whether that bone is healing from a fracture or responding to the normal activities of everyday life. In fracture healing, a combination of osteoblastic (bone forming) and osteoclastic (bone breakdown) activity occurs which ultimately leads to healing of the bone.

Fracture healing: Bone metabolism is part of the fracture healing process and disturbances to this process can decrease the speed of healing (smoking, alcohol, deficient nutrition, etc). Usually it takes 3-4 months for fractures to properly heal, 6-8 weeks for fracture healing to appear on xray (if everything is perfect. Hope this helps, best of luck.
