what can cause sudden chest heaviness and breathing difficulty?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Theresa Henderson
40 years experience Pulmonary Critical Care
Multiple Causes: The cause of the symptoms you describe should always direct you to see your physician to be examined but can range from relatively benign to physically serious causes. Serious causes could be heart blood vessel or valve problems; lung blood vessel blocking; exercise at altitude if lung or heart disease is present. A very common, physically benign cause in young adults is a panic attack or anxiety.
