Both together: A cold is caused by a respiratory virus while hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) is an allergic reaction --without fever [despite the name]. Hay fever is triggered by pollens, mold spores, animal dander but not cold viruses. It is certainly possible to have allergies and then develop a cold simultaneously. Then you feel twice as bad...
