Hydroxyurea: The use of Hydroxyurea in sickle cell anemia has been shown to decrease the frequency / severity of painful crises. Regular follow-up with physicians knowledgable about sickle cell anemia is also important.

Stay healthy: A person with sickle cell disease should routinely see a sickle cell disease doctor. In addition, they should do the same things the rest of us should do: eat right, get enough sleep, and avoid excess stress in order to stay healthy.
