Ignore your fissure!: Assuming correct diagnosis of a fissure=tiny tear in the short anal canal lining, exercise is ok. Anal canal is encircled by 2 strong muscles=anal sphincters. This canal tear can create severe pain before/during/after a stool, "like passing glass" or may feel like "sitting on a golf ball" from sphincter spasm. Hot baths for relief. No exercise is prohibited - but if it hurts, don't do it! :).

OK to exercise: But would avoid straddle type activities such as bicycling and horseback riding. When exercising remember to drink an extra 20 ounces of fluid for every thirty minutes of exercise on top of 80-100 ounces for a normal day.

Yes: Exercise should have no effect on an anal fissure (tear). You should seek out a general or colo-rectal surgeon for treatment, which can be medical or surgical.

Anal Tear: I would let pain be your guide. If it hurts your bottom then don't do it until you heal.

Mild to mod exercise: Anal fissures are caused from passing large, hard stools. Poor diet (lack of adequate fiber and water intake) as well as inactivity can lead to constipation. Constipation leads to large hard stools. Moderate exercise, especially walking can help to regulate the stools and actually improve problems with anal fissures. Exercises that cause straining could potentially aggravate the fissure.
