A member asked:

I have heard that taking adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) with also having trichotillomania makes it worse, but it actually helps me, would there be a specific reason why?

Contrary effect: Methamphetamines are infamous for inducing obsessive behavior & untoward skin picking in illicit users. In people with underlying attention deficite disorders, which are often accompanied by agitation, a contrary response of calmness & more appropriate behavior can be induced by amphetamines; as seen in children with hyperactivity & attention deficit & who are given ritalin, (methylphenidate) an amphetamine.
