A member asked:

What happens if you go too long with a yeast infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A : A yeast infection will likely go away on it's own if left untreated, but may not. It can lead to chronic discharge and itching, and a lot of unnecessary discomfort. The yeast will not develop into a bacterial vaginosis, however you can develop a secondary bacterial infection, meaning both yeast and bacteria are present at the same time. Also, yeast can not develop into trichomoniasis. This is an std (sexually transmitted disease) and requires treatment. Is there a reason why you are not treating your yeast infection? Are you sure it's yeast? Have you seen your doctor? If not i recommend you make an appointment for a proper exam, diagnosis, and treatment, especially if you are concerned about std's. Good luck.
