Usually, yes: It does depend a bit on where the breaks are, as well as how swollen your hand/thumb still is, but usually, the swelling is down so it is safe to cast, and you will be followed for the next several weeks to monitor healing. Depending on career, hand-ed-ness, and also nature of breaks, the specialist might recommend surgical repair.

Most likely a splint: as it can work as well as a cast, & much less burdensome. It does depend on the findings @ your appointment.
