Many causes: Many infections can cause vaginal itching. A normal discharge can also cause it in some people. Even detergents or soaps can cause irritation in those sensitive tissues. An exam by a gyn or primary care provider can help rule out infection and determine a way to prevent or treat it.

Unlikely: Vaginal itching and a cottage cheese-like discharge could be signs of a yeast infection, which is not dangerous. You can try using over the counter yeast infection medication if you have these symptoms. If your symptoms do not go away, you might consider seeing a doctor to evaluate the problem since it could be a different diagnosis.

Vaginal itch: It could be something as simple as a new soap, detergent or fabric softener or feminine hygiene product. If no discharge - i would see if there is any new products you are using - anything that may have come in contact down there could cause itching. If its external - Benadryl (diphenhydramine) cream might help - if internal - a simple vinegar and water douche might help.
