A member asked:

Are shingles and hypothyroid related?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not related: Shingles is due to reactivation of the herpes zoster virus (chicken pox), & can be spread to people who have not had chickenpox. Reactivation usually occurs when one is under stress or is ill or immunocompromised. Hypothyroidism is related to a functional decrease in thyroid levels which can result from a number of causes, including autoimmune disease.
