A member asked:

What can i do if my friend is blind in one eye & she wants to be a surgeon. is it even possible ?

Dr. Tim Conrad answered

Specializes in Ophthalmology

Yes: Although this may not be the best choice for her. Surgery requires excellent vision and eye-hand coordination. There are surgeons who do have impairment of vision of one eye, but this is not common. Certain specialties would not train a person with a blind eye.
