A member asked:

I'm wondering why are bright things painful to look at?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Light input: The eye and retina are comfortable within a certain range of light intensity. If things are beyond that in intensity, then the eye is uncomfortable. This is why we wear sunglasses and eyeshades when that might happen. The pain is a protective reflex to prevent damage.
