A member asked:

If you have leukaemia and you start to get bruises, this is because of a low blood count right?

Possibly: The platelets may be low and the blood won't clot right after simple injuries. You may also have problems in the coagulation cascade that affects all of the blood cells. Talk with your doctor for a physical exam this week.

Bruising: In the setting of leukemia where the leukemia cells are occupying the bone marrow space- production of normal blood cells would be severely diminished. Thus one can be presented with spontaneous bruising /bleeding as the result of low platelet levels. However, if one is easily bruising- it does not mean that one has leukemia. Many other conditions can cause easy bruising as well. Go get checked.
