Do not block pain: Pain killers only raise the threshold level at which the patient experiences pain. If the new pain comes in over the threshold level the patient will feel it. If pain comes in waves or spasms , the top part of the pain cycle will be felt. That is why it is better to eliminate the cause of the pain than taking a pain med to block it. And get no results.

Breakthrough Pain: If the pain level exceeds the "level" of pain being covered by the medication you will feel it. Maybe you need more medication, maybe a different medication (tolerance to medication occurs). Talk to md who is prescribing medication.
