See a doctor ASAP: This may be time to visit an er. It can be delirium and the possible causes can be very threatening while at the same time reversible with immediate care. Don't try to diagnose it - try to get it attended to - now.

Delirium: Since the onset is acute with confusion, it is most likely delirium rather than dementia. Causes include drug side effects, alcohol, infection, metabolic problems like electrolyte imbalance & diabetes with blood sugar problems; neoplasms; trauma, stroke, etc. You need to get to er quickly for assessment & treatment of the underlying problem. Mental status may clear once this is done. Good luck!
