A member asked:

Does hyperthyroidism come and go or do you have it until it's treated?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Can come and go: The most common cause for hyperthyroidism in the us is graves disease. This is an autoimmune disorder that can wax and wane, so thyroid levels can be intermittently elevated. However, most people with this disorder do require treatment. Subacute thyroiditis is another cause for temporary hyperthyroidism.
