Duodenal switch: The duodenal switch (typically combined with a biliopancreatic diversion) is a type of weight loss surgery. It is performed far less commonly than gastric bypass, lap band, and sleeve gastrectomy. It results in tremendous weight loss, but it also causes the most malnutrition which is why most surgeons have abandoned this procedure. Super obese pts may be candidates.
