Why did a neurologist automatically assume depression, (numbness, vision problems, fuzzy memory) after negative mri? ana positive. gp says lupus.

Depends: Lupus causing central nervous system findings is advanced & has unequivocal lab findings 2 go with significant physical findings. A positive ANA is not diagnostic of anything specific. If you had lupus causing CNS abnormalities, many other autoimmune tests are likely to be extremely elevated. Lupus would have joint & kidney findings too. Anxiety or depression are more common & likely the reason.

See below: Some of your symptoms can be seen with depression. An ANA alone is not diagnostic of lupus and are frequently false positive. You can see a rheumatologist for a second opinion.

Had lower back pain since 2018, I have done MRI's, Physical Therapy, EMG, etc. All normal. ANA was tested to rule out Lupus, the ratio came back borderline, ~6 months later with the worse pain, my test is negative. Why? Could it still be Autoimmune?
My temp after i get to work is 99.1-99.4 . Evening and over night normal. I am ANA +1:640 spec pattern. High sed rate. Cbc ok. Metabolic ok. Serum protein ok. Lupus panel neg. Up back pain 1yr. Mri ok?
