Wow: There must be an explanation for the anemia. An effective treatment course can only be accomplished by having a proper diagnosis. Iron deficiency is the most common reason for a woman your age to be anemic, but there are many other diagnoses that must be looked for. Until you have that specific diagnosis you can't begin to prevent future problems.

More info needed: You must have a talk with your physician to find out why you have low hemoglobin---excess menstrual bleeding? Blood in bowel movements? Nosebleeds? Well-rounded diet? Medications? Good luck.
