Can a patient with active tb disease infect other people?

Yes: This is how the disease spreads. If we can prevent this transmission, the disease will be eradicated.

Yes: Tb patients with active disease (especially adults that are coughing) release TB bugs in droplets with their cough that can be inhaled by others around them. This can be especially risky for small children or elderly who are more prone to getting sick from it immediately. Once an adult has been treated for at least 2 months with correct medicines, they are less likely to be infectious to others.
