See below: It is the side effect sometimes seen in newborn infants given the antibiotic chloramphenicol. It happens because babies lack the functioning enzyme system that detoxifies the chloramphenicol, resulting in the build up of toxic metabolites and an insufficient kidney to excrete the drug. Symptoms: vomiting, grey skin color, limp body tone, low bp, blue color of lips and skin, low temp.
