See below: If you are on hydroxychloroquine/plaquenil you do not want to stop as this your maintenance drug unless there is a medical reason to do so. Even if you are feeling well, the Hydroxychloroquine reduces your risk of renal disease, thrombolic events, the number of lupus flares. It has been my experience when a patient stops Hydroxychloroquine without something to replace it, they have severe flares.
