A member asked:

Gynocologist wouldnt blood test for herpes1&2 w/out outbreak cause the cell structure is similar but std clinics do it all the time, r the tests accura?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

HerpeSelect test: One can ask her primary care doctor (family medicine doctor or internal medicine doctor) to order the herpeselect blood test. It is accurate in showing if a person has herpes 1 and/or herpes 2, but does not say how contagious the person is nor when nor how often her outbreaks might occur. Be sure to offer to pay cash for the test if one's insurance won't pay for it.
