Autoimmune disorders: Both juvenile idiopathic arthritis and hypothyroidism (caused by thyroiditis) can have autoimmune etiology. There is increased incidence of hypothyroidism in patients with jia when compared to matched normal controls. Another autoimmune disorder celiac bowel disease is also increased in jia.
